I went for a walk around the administration block at Ziphembeleni High School (in the township of Kwa Mashu, KZN South Africa) which was destroyed by arson only a couple of days earlier.I was taking a couple of photos through the window when the groundsman showed me I could go round the other side and get it. No roping off of derelict buildings here.
It is sad to see already underfunded schools, so underfunded that the school is essentially rooms with chairs and a chalkboard, have to then find money to repair sensless damage like this.

I don't understand....and these pictures bring a tear to my eye....why was the school attacked?
I agree with Jaimie, did they find any motive or is that only in a world where there is enough police enforcement to find out?
Not sure why, I didn't ask on the day as I only had a few mins to look around and then we had some sessions to run. This isn't a school I normally work in. Nor is it a township I know so it isn't safe for me to go back and find out on my own.
Often schools are broken into to steal computers, as well as copper piping/wiring to sell to scrap metal companies for a fraction of the amount it will cost to fix the damage.
Why do people vandalise things anywhere? I expect the reasons (whatever they are) are often the same around the world. The same school has a large performance hall (stage and everything) it would be beautiful and a great asset to the school if all the windows weren't smashed which lets birds dirty up the place and water damage occur, it is in general disrepair. I looked at some of the lighting in there and it looked as though it's wiring had been stolen.
